Emily Coats is a photographer and graphic designer who was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. She is a graduate of Pacific University and Vermont College of Fine Arts, where she received her B.A. in Studio Art, and M.F.A. in Graphic Design, respectively. Her professional experience includes work in advertising, publication, and identity design, as well as portraiture and commercial photography. Alongside her college-buddy and marketing guru, Michelle Humphrey, she started a small photography & graphic design firm, Jean Claire Creative.
After a couple of opportunities to teach undergraduate courses, she fell in love with design education and continues to teach graphic design and photography as an assistant professor. When she is not busy teaching or spending time with students, Emily loves to travel and print on her letterpress.
